Membership Application Form | W O W ! Waikiki 'Ohana Workforce YEAR-END COMMITTEE REPORT The Waikiki 'Ohana Workforce is the employee council of the Waikiki Improvement Association. We represent the 35,000 employees who work in or service the Waikiki area. We are involved in many activities and meet monthly to discuss and share ideas of how we can make Waikiki a better place to live, work and visit! Issues at the forefront of discussion are the BID, transportation and the renewal of Waikiki, both in the public and private sectors. Meetings are held at 12 noon on the first Tuesday of each month at the Waikiki Trade Center 7th Floor Conference Room. WOW Quarterly Beach Clean-ups Again in 1999, the Waikiki
Ohana Workforce coordinated three Waikiki Beach clean-ups. These were held in April, June
and October. Participation was outstanding throughout the year, with the Japan-America
Society from both Honolulu and Miyakonojo, Japan assisting in the June event. A special
mahalo to all of the companies who donate their time, supplies and manpower: Bank of
Hawaii, Budget Rent-a-Car, C&C Lifeguards, Cardinal Services,
The WOW group has continued to take an active role this year in walking the Aloha Patrol one night per month. This has given us the opportunity to see first hand what issues affect both our visitors and residents in Waikiki. Many WOW members have demonstrated throughout the year their commitment in making Waikiki a better place to live and visit by actively walking the Aloha Patrol on a monthly basis. We would like to offer a special mahalo to the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel for their generosity in providing a dinner for the WOW group on the evenings that they walk the Aloha Patrol. "A dinner and a walk" has been very successful for the past six months. Aloha Service Awards From the inception of the Waikiki 'Ohana
Workforce over four years ago, it has been our desire to recognize individuals in the
Waikiki workforce who have demonstrated extraordinary service and commitment in making
Waikiki a friendlier, cleaner and safer place. Hence, the Aloha Service Award program was
developed, with the first awardees being recognized at the WIA annual meeting in December
of 1998 and again in 1999. |
